A "screen cap" is a simple term for capturing the exact screen you are looking at on your computer to use later in a document or email. By catching the screen you can put it in files, emails, power points, etc. Here are directions to create and save a "screen cap":
Taking a picture of the desktop on your PC (all windows, background, icons, etc.):
- Hold down the "ALT" key and press the "Print Scrn" key. "Print Scrn" is the first of 3 buttons to the right of the function keys located along the top of your keyboard. This saves an image of the active window onto the clipboard.
Note: The clipboard can only hold ONE (1) image at a time. You must paste each screen capture BEFORE taking additional screen captures. - Open the file in which you want to place the screen capture.
- Position your cursor where you want to place the screen capture.
- Go to the FILE menu and select PASTE. The image will now appear in the location you specified.

- When the Screen Grab dialog opens, click outside that window.

- Press: Apple+Shift+4 (*make sure the caps lock is off.)
- A cross will appear. Draw a box around the section you want holding down the mouse button. Press CONTROL before releasing the mouse button.
- This saves the image to the clipboard.
Note: The clipboard can only hold ONE image at a time. You must paste each image BEFORE taking additional pictures. Open the file in which you want to place the screen capture. - Position your cursor where you want to place the screen capture.
- Go to the EDIT menu and select PASTE. The image will now appear in the location you specified.
